The Student Sanctuary Story

Student Sanctuary draws on decades of experience to create secure, purpose-built accommodation that supports students as they settle into independent living. Inspired by native Australian plants, each residence is designed to feel grounded, welcoming, and connected to its surroundings. Through thoughtful design and a strong sense of place, Student Sanctuary offers students a supportive environment to live, study, and build their own routines.

Built on care, carried forward

Three people gathered around a table reviewing architectural blueprints together in an office.

In the 1960s, at thirteen, Julie made her first investment: a small farm co-owned with her mother. It was an early sign of her grit and instinct for nurturing places and people. Years later, as international students began arriving in Australia, she recognised their need for safety, comfort and genuine care. She opened her doors and, long before “student accommodation” was an industry, created a home where young people felt supported, welcomed and understood.

Julie cared for both the building and its residents with unwavering dedication; fixing what needed attention, greeting late-night arrivals and offering reassurance when distance felt overwhelming. To many, she became a host mother, shaping a quiet legacy built on kindness, resilience and a belief that every student deserves a sanctuary.

Today, Student Sanctuary carries that spirit with spaces designed for both connection and retreat. Thoughtfully planned amenities and communal areas offer room to socialise, study together and build friendships, while private rooms provide the comfort and calm needed to rest and reset. Guided by Julie’s children, Timothy and Samantha, the legacy continues her commitment to creating warm, inclusive homes where students can truly study, grow and flourish.
